Kokedama Care
Staghorn Fern Kokedama Care
House kokedama in a bowl or on a plate (any pretty glass or ceramic container will do) or hang from the ceiling with a sling. The root ball must have adequate circulation; do not place in a terrarium or cloche. Staghorn ferns grow on the side of rocks and trees, so the fronds should be perpendicular (sit ball on its side). The fronds naturally fall in a certain direction, which will determine how you place the ball on its display.
Let the ball dry out until it feels lighter (avoid letting it dry out completely), then water. Place ball in lukewarm water for 10 minutes and then let drain for a few minutes. Do not let it sit in water otherwise.
Keep in a bright spot indoors, though away from direct sunlight.
Do not pluck “dead” or brown fronds - these non-fertile fronds play an important nutritional role for the plant.
Fertilize as needed in the warmer (growing) months. Use a balanced 10-10-10 solution, like most orchid fertilizers. Miracle-Grow orchid plant food spikes are particularly easy to use. Push one half of a spike into the top of the ball each growing season.
Ferns are mostly pet safe, but their fronds are very tempting to munchy mouths!

Other Houseplant Kokedama
House kokedama in a waterproof bowl or on a plate (any pretty glass or ceramic container will do) or hang from the ceiling with a sling. The root ball must have adequate circulation; do not place in a terrarium or cloche.
Research the care for your specific species, which will indicate how much and how often the plant needs to be watered and its light requirements. When it is time to water (usually when the sphagnum moss ball is dry and light to the touch), soak in lukewarm water for 10 minutes and then let drain for a few minutes.
